"The Vision"
The creation of Forest Creek Golf Club was conceived as early as 1985 when Terry and Louis Brown, along with their cousin, Heidi Hall-Jones, thought about building a private golf club on the property they inherited from their grandparents, Louis and Mary Meyer. The Meyers had begun visiting Pinehurst in the 1940s and fell in love with the climate and relaxed lifestyle. They began purchasing tracts of land, eventually moving into the main home on the property, which was built in 1895.
Mary Meyer enjoyed playing golf, while husband Louis was an avid equestrian who enjoyed fox hunting. They would meet at day’s end, enjoy a drink together and share stories about their day. The estate home became a family compound which provided a haven for their children and grandchildren, who also grew to love the Pinehurst area. The Meyers ultimately passed on to their heirs the estate home and acquired land. There were approximately 1,500 acres by that time, and the Meyer legacy was alive and well with the next generation enjoying the compound as Louis and Mary had always dreamed.
The idea to build a private golf club on the Louis Meyer Farm was set in motion by the mid-1980s. The name of the club would be a critical decision. The land was primarily a pine forest with multiple small creeks running through it.
The Browns had grown up on the north shore of Chicago, while Ms. Hall-Jones had lived both in Omaha and Pinehurst. Golf was a special part of their upbringing and they’d had the good fortune of growing up around some of the greatest courses in the country. All three descendents of Louis and Mary Meyer had a keen sense of what distinguished a good golf club from a great one. They used this knowledge when forming the mission of Forest Creek. They sought out and found a seasoned developer in Greenville, SC named Barton Tuck. Mr. Tuck quickly adopted their dream and turned the vision into a reality.
Today, Forest Creek Golf Club is a private equity club dedicated to providing the best golf and residential living in the Pinehurst area. Situated within 1,265 acres of pine forest, the heart of the club are two eighteen-hole courses designed by Tom Fazio; courses that have been recognized as two of the best courses in the nation.
Current amenities include a charming clubhouse, award-winning separate men’s locker room, swimming complex, a spa, tennis courts, and biking and jogging trails. All of this has been the dream of the club’s founding family, working in conjunction with their development partners and Tom Fazio.
Since Forest Creek’s opening in 1996, we have attracted over 550 members from around the world who share a common love for the game and an appreciation for the advantages that come with private club ownership. If you would like more information about Forest Creek click here.
